The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) is the premier event of the year for the training, simulation and education communities of the U.S. government and industry. As such it is also an event which attracts an ever increasing number of international participants.
I/ITSEC is held yearly in Orlando, Florida, USA, the week after the Thanksgiving holiday.
The genesis of the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference goes back to 1966 and the initial NTDC/Industry Conference, established by the Naval Training Device Center, Orlando.
From the modest beginning, the conference grew, in evolutionary style, to reflect the changing emphasis of the U.S. Military Services from training devices to training systems. It also grew in stature as other elements related to training were integrated into the conference format. This was reflected in changes to the conference name until it reached its current title, the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference in 1997.
Interest and participation in the NTDC/Industry Conference by industry, the other U.S. Services and from friendly allied countries increased until 1978. At that point it was decided to expand the scope of the conference, allowing greater participation by industry and the other Services. Therefore, in 1979, the conference changed from being a strictly Navy and Industry Conference to become the Interservice/Industry Training Equipment Conference.
From its inception in 1966 through 1991, the conference structure included three categories for professional papers: Technical, Management and User. Responding to the need for more diversification, yet retaining the desired specialization, the categories were redefined and increased from three to five in 1992. Maintaining awareness of expanding technology, the simulation and training industry and the user communities, the infrastructure was adjusted in 1993 to provide for the present six categories.
The sponsor of the I/ITSEC is the National Training Systems Association (NTSA) in Arlington, Virginia, USA. The Executive Director of NTSA is Rear Admiral Fred Lewis, U.S. Navy (Ret.).
