Modernization and Refurbishment

SSAI’s simulator development and modernization / refurbishment philosophy includes a strong emphasis on both Lessons Learned and Continuous Improvement Process (CIP). We strive to develop optimal engineering solutions. These solutions consider both the technical and business aspects of operating simulators.

In 1999, Jim Garrett, SSAI’s President, presented “Simulator Modernization and Refurbishment”. Abstract —

Simulation Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) (Saint Petersburg, Florida, USA) has developed a system by system approach to the modernization and refurbishment of training devices. Many times the tradeoff between the cost of repair and the cost of replacement produces the need to replace obsolete technology with the current state of the art. When combined with vehicle configuration changes, advancements and improvements in simulation technology further influence the desire to better the current training systems in use. There are many technological improvements in the areas of image generation and projection, motion systems, digital aural cues modeling, digital communication systems modeling, application of modern Human Computer Interface (HCI) to Instructor Stations, and a myriad of others that will improve the quality of training and increase the reliability of the training system while giving more “bang for the buck”.
